Purpose behind the programme

Confidence through
participation.

The camp’s aim is to support young people’s life skills, personal leadership and positive group relationships. Reflection is part of the experience: recognising progress and considering how to improve.

Start with team spirit

Arrival, unpacking and icebreakers lead into teams creating their own flag and war cry. Materials and paint are supplied. Teams present their designs and explain what they represent. Allow around two hours for the flag and war cry activity.

Give everyone a turn to lead

Activities can rotate the leadership role so every learner listens, plans and participates. Guided blindfold challenges practise trust and clear instructions.

Make space for your school’s goals

Agree outcomes with the facilitators beforehand. Teacher-led sessions can cover school rules, responsibilities and discipline. Facilitator-led topics include identifying leaders, leadership styles, listening and making a difference. One or two professional sessions can be requested, including subjects chosen by the organiser.

  • Email, telephone and mobile number.
  • Numbers of male and female teachers, bus drivers, learners, girls and boys.
  • Grade or age group, arrival and departure dates and times.

The current form lists Grades 6–12 and students or youth over 18. Contact the team about other ages. Its budget question uses a two-night, three-day camp.

For that camp length, the form suggests planning roughly eight hours of activities on the middle day and one to two hours each evening. Final scheduling is agreed with your organiser.
